Ankur A. Shah, MD, MBA is a urologist practicing in St. Petersburg and the Greater Tampa Bay Area. He received his undergraduate degree from Union College in New York and concomitantly obtained his MBA in healthcare management from Clarkson University. He then attended medical school at Albany Medical College, where he graduated in the top 5% of his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He then completed his Urology residency training at the University of Pennsylvania, which is one of the most comprehensive and elite Urology training programs in the nation. During that time, Dr. Shah was awarded the ‘Outstanding Technical Excellence in Urologic Surgery’ award from the Division of Urology, highlighting his exceptional surgical abilities. He also published original research in multiple peer-reviewed journals, authored a textbook chapter and presented his research at several national and regional Urologic society meetings.

Dr. Shah performs minimally invasive robotic procedures using the da Vinci surgical system. He is also highly trained in reconstructive urology, urologic oncology, kidney stone surgery, male and female incontinence procedures, BPH, erectile dysfunction and prosthetic urology. He has clinical interests in the treatment of genitourinary cancers, including prostate, kidney, testicular, adrenal and bladder cancer. At the University of Pennsylvania, he received rigorous training from world-renowned leaders in many complex operations for genitourinary cancers, such as radical cystectomy and urinary diversion. He also trained with one of the nation’s leaders in female pelvic medicine and performs minimally invasive surgery for female pelvic organ prolapse.  

Dr. Shah is also one of the only surgeons in Pinellas County that performs surgery for inflatable penile prosthesis and the artificial urinary sphincter. He received specialized training from the world’s highest volume penile implanter, Dr. Paul Perito, and performs the surgery using his minimally invasive technique. In addition, he enjoys providing care for all aspects of general urology, such as Aquablation and GreenLight laser prostatectomy.

Dr. Shah aims to treat all his patients as he would his family. He appreciates being able to spend time with his patients and takes great privilege in providing them with the highest level of care possible in a compassionate and empathetic manner.

Dr. Shah has surgical privileges at St. Anthony’s and Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg as well as Tampa General Hospital.
